Confinement and distancing vs. socialization and proximity
Sweden is the only country in the world that has not ordered a containment and they still seem to be holding steady despite the number of confirmed cases. As of July 4, there are 294.7 cases per 100,000 population in Canada (105,211 /37,746,309) vs. 691.5/100,000 in Sweden (71,419 per 10,100,052). It may seem ridiculous to continue with public health measures that work poorly on the spot. However, one has to think about the medium and long term with the overall consequences of the impact of public health measures. We cannot remain confined indefinitely and sooner or later we will have to return to so-called normal activities.
Natural immunization
Much like naturopathy, Sweden relies on natural mass immunization rather than confinement. What you need to know is that containment only delays contact with the virus and the development of immunization. The Swedish government defends its model and talks about appropriate measures for the long term, for a “marathon, not a sprint”. According to them, the measures should be taken for a period of two years. Confining the population for two years, or until a vaccine is marketed, would make no sense.
For Johan Carlson, director of the Swedish Public Health Agency, the goal is “to create a situation where you can live (your) life in a fairly normal way given the restrictions” and where the strategy is widely accepted and followed.
New cases: Sweden vs. Canada
As of November 2, Sweden has 47 new cases per 100,000 population and Canada has 12 new cases per 100,000 population. Until we get through these two years, we won’t have enough hindsight to know whether strict containment measures have been more successful than the Swedish model.
Will the collateral damage of indirect deaths due to psychological and financial distress have been worse than the benefits of strict containment?
Natural vs. vaccine immunization
In any case, from a naturopathic point of view, natural immunization is and will always be more advantageous than an artificial immunization via a vaccine.
